A visit to the Desert
The drive through the Atlas Mountains was amazing. The views constantly changed. It was a 7 hour drive or so from Marrakech to Zakora where we then went a short distance into the edge of the desert.
Once a the desert camp, we were served mint tea (imagine!). The facilities were basic but nice. Each visitor has a separate tent with a proper bed. there was an electric light but no heat.
A separate tent was used for the dinning room. Outside was a canopy with carpets and cushions for enjoying the fresh air.
In the morning, we loaded up on camels (!) and had a 30 minute or so ride back to the road for our waiting guide to take us back to Marrakech. It is difficult to explain the nature of the many sensations one experiences riding a camel. The camel getting up and down is a real thrill. The gait of the camel moves various body parts that chalk not be named in directions you have long forgotten they will move (and they mostly don't move). If you are sore when you get off, you've done something wrong.
The drive back to Marrakech was filled with endless vistas of snow covered peaks, verdant valleys separated by brown, green, red, or ocher hills. It was a color-fest and a real delight.
