Hanging out in DC

So. Just in time for the snow storm, we go to DC. Caught the Metro on Friday to the national mall to visit the National Museum of the American Indian. Really great place to visit. Every other museum I've been to is about stuff: paintings, sculpture, artifacts, etc. This is the first museum I've visited that is all about people. Great stories. Great traditions. Beautiful artwork. Humanity. Also great food in the restaurant. Don't miss it.

And then there is the National Botanic Garden.

It is was terribly cold outside on Friday, 19 deg, and we didn't stray to far outside. After taking the metro to Federal Center SW, we hiked a couple blocks to McD's to thaw and have breakfast. After the NMAI we zipped next door to the Botanic Garden. Another nice warm place to visit.

Nice holiday exhibits and great plants and flowers. I don't remember the name of the first one above, by the second one is the Swiss cheese plant for obvious reasons.

Today was another relaxing day. So great to let the stresses of work fall away and focus on the departure on the 10th. the e-mail flux has fallen (for the moment) to essentially zero and I and no longer apprehensive about checking my mail. The snow gave everything that winter-time kinda new look that is always refreshing about January.

And just so you have your scale set reasonably, the high will be 50 degrees in London tomorrow. Blimey! We're headed to springtime. Of course, it will be raining, but you can't have everything. Well, I guess you can as long as your "everything" includes winter rain.
